Why we like it: Anybody who uses Bluetooth earphones knows that many of them have a giant Achilles' heel: sweat. Just a few drops can short out the electronics in tiny in-ear buds. Endorsed as the official training headphones of the USA Triathlon organization, Jaybird's Freedom Spirit Bluetooth earbuds promise not to expire when you perspire. They include a lifetime warranty against sweat to back that up. Music sounds warm and clear, without the thumping bass of other headphones, and on-ear controls let you answer your smartphone without reaching into your pocket. Why we like it: At a time when competitors such as Microsoft and Sony have been scrambling to morph their consoles into movie-and-music-laden home-entertainment centers, Nintendo has doubled down on gaming. The Wii U introduces something new to the mix, a tablet-like hand-held controller called the Gamepad that includes its own color touch screen. Use it to change gameplay point of view in multi-player games, or to play something solo while someone else is watching TV. When it comes to technology, the watchwords are always "bigger, faster, better." That's certainly the case this holiday season. IPhones and Androids have gotten bigger, and the arrival of 4G LTE wireless networks has made them -- not to mention iPads -- faster, too. But some things have also gotten smaller, as seven-inch tablets from the likes of Google carve out a niche in the marketplace. As for better, there's everything from a game-changing camera to high-style, high-tech wireless headphones.
