EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES (NANO, BIO,INFO, COGNO) AND THE CHANGINGCONCEPTS OF HEALTH ANDDISABILITY/IMPAIRMENT
A New Challenge for Health Policy,Research and Care Gregor Wolbring Introduction Nanotechnology,the art of manipulating materials on anatomic or molecular scale (Merriam-Webster 2005) enablesa new paradigm of science and technology which seesdifferent technologies converging at the nano-scale namely(a) nanoscience and nanotechnology;(b) biotechnology andbiomedicine;(c) information technology and,(d) cognitivescience (NBIC,nano-bio-info-cogno).Nanotechnology and its convergence with other technologiesgenerates a lot of interest in many countries including India.The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and theIndian Institute of Technology (IIT) have launched theInitiative for Collaborative Research.( The Hindu 2005) TheNanotechnology Research and Education Foundation(IndiaNano) has been formed recently.(TheNanotechnology Research and Education Foundation[IndiaNano] 2006)President A.P.J.Abdul Kalam outlined his vision fornanotechnology in India as follows:
